How it works

How Housing Market Ads Works

Housing Market Ads is self-service. You create the campaign, choose who should see it, and it runs across the portal network.

A campaign is set up in the Housing Market Ads dashboard: a landing page, an ad built from short titles, descriptions, images and a logo, the keywords that decide where it appears, and a daily budget, then a review before it goes live. It is distributed across 34 portals and billed at $10 per 1,000 targeted impressions.

How it works

From free account to live campaign.

Four steps, all self-service. Every campaign is reviewed before it runs, so allow time ahead of a launch or an open house.

  1. 01

    Create a free account

Registration is free and self-service. You can look around, plan an audience and price a campaign before spending anything.

  2. 02

    Build the campaign

Name the campaign, add the landing page, then write the ad: short titles and descriptions, images and a logo. The ad is assembled to fit the ad slots on each portal page.

  3. 03

    Choose the audience

Set the keywords that decide where the ad appears — the location, property type and listing type people are searching — and a daily budget, then submit the campaign for review.

  4. 04

    Launch and measure

Go live across the portal network, follow impressions, clicks, click-through rate and spend in the dashboard, and switch any campaign off or on at any time.

The same four steps, three different campaigns.

What changes between campaigns is the audience and the creative, not the process. The cost column is arithmetic — impressions ÷ 1,000 × $10 — and is not a forecast of results.

Targeting

Real estate targeting, not general audience targeting.

Four dimensions, built from what a property search actually contains, and all of them set through your keywords. Use one, or combine them until the audience matches the offer.

Before you build the campaign

Two things are worth doing before the first draft, and both are free.

See what property shoppers are searching for

The Keyword Planner turns a location, property types and a listing type into keyword ideas, and counts how many matching searches were made on the portals over the dates you choose. It needs no account, and signed-in advertisers open it from the dashboard sidebar. Past searches are a guide, not a guarantee of impressions, clicks, enquiries or sales.

Understand the market before you advertise

Housing Market Insights covers real estate market data. It is the sensible place to check what a market looks like before deciding which one to put a budget behind.
